About "African Strength"

When painting mandalas I try to express a feeling inside. All my mandala work are spontaneous and there is no pre-planning involved. I follow the process described by Karl Jung in which he describes mandala painting as a 'doodling' process. I simply start and work with what I have just created to create the next thing, guided by a feeling of 'what works and feels real good'. I do this within a disciplined framework which follow natural laws so that the mandala is balanced and harmonious.

Therefore, one can say that the impression which the mandala creates when completed, and the title it holds, come after the painting is finished.

African strength speaks of my beloved country South Africa. The vibrancy and movement of color tells of the strong heart beat which is so uniquely African. The wheel in the 'Bindu' refers to growth, evolution and change. The setting suns and the giraffe type patterns around the edges as well as the tree branches tells of mother earth and our love for the land as Africans.

The painting is block mounted and ready to hang.
