About "Corona Chokes the World"

Inspired by the impact and influence that the COVID-19 virus has had on the world. As a South African, I painted from a South African's perspective trying to uphold the effects of the virus. China, the world's manufacturing superpower, now at the neck of the world, strangling it as the origins of a virus that shutdown most parts of the world, killing hundreds of thousands, destroying years of economic progress and downgrading many to a lower social class in a matter of days. Decorated as the rock art, a mask of a warrior, having to dig down to our roots to find ways of survival, just as our ancestors. With businesses shutdown and travel restricted, we see the a decline in convenience and fast pace lifestyles and a rise in DIY lifestyle, for instance the restricted selling of alcohol resulted in homemade beers and wine, increasing the usage of yeast which was a key ingredient in ancient times. We see many masks today, with beautiful designs that inspire unity, love, victory, branding and the like, which is also a form of communication. South Africa's diverse cultures and backgrounds banding together at the head of the president's table to discuss and develop strategies that will steer the nation through the crisis. Surrounded by the striking red virus expressed in impasto. Africa, Mother Nature with her piercing eyes and stare, evokes the essential questions of one's life, making us implore:
Who am I? A Question of Identity;
Where do I come from? A question of Origin;
What Can I do? A Question of Potential;
Why am I here? A Question of Purpose;
and Where Am I going? A Question of Destiny.

About Itumeleng

Itumeleng Koloko

Itumeleng Koloko, born in Randfontein - West of Johannesburg. I refined my desire and passion for art in High School when visual art was one of the majoring subjects available. However, I went on to study my Bachelor of Commerce (Principles of Marketing and Management at the University of the Witwatersrand). Studying art was not an option as my family wanted me to be able to get a "paying job" after University. From being an Operations and Strategy consultant at KPMG to a Strategic Manager at Discovery within a space of four years, I still could not shake off my love for the arts which I believe is my God-given talent.
Whilst working, I pursued my passion for art, the demand for my artworks increased and I took a major life risk and resigned from my job to pursue my passion for the arts.

I often employ realistic techniques to create life-like portraits, I also create abstract, contemporary, and pop art artworks. My art services include but are not limited to: custom made paintings, drawing, printing art and framing as well as selling minor art crafts.

My spiritual belief is the motivation for my work. My work depicts the need to be able to discern between good and bad, wisdom and folly as well as a depiction of the social issues from a positive perspective.

I believe that my purpose is to use my God-given talent to create beautiful art that brings light to people's lives and the society. I create artworks that have spiritual meaning/ inspiration/ reference / connotation behind it

Currently my artworks find a home in the likes of: CEO of BIDVEST, Mpumi Madisa, Founder and CEO of Discovery, Adrian Gore; SA Hip Hop artist Khuli Chana; Botswana Dr. Samba Nyirenda; Australian Senior Pastor and Global Founder of Hillsong Church Brian Houston and many more respectable clients.
