About "Cul-de Sac - Indian Doorway"

While on bus trip around Northern India, we visited the Shekhawati area (Alsisar) where the rich merchants used to live. They just left their homes and moved out of the area. This door is one of the doors still in suite in one of the dilapidated homes in the village we visited. Thought it would be a good reminder of what used to be.

About Lynn

Lynn Douglass

I have always been interested in art and have developed my creativity over the years. However, it is only since 1993, when I took up painting for the first time, that my passion started growing. Just over three years ago, after working for a large corporate organization for 23 years, I retired. Painting then became my new full-time job. I enjoy working in all media (especially in oils and charcoal) I find that the nature of the composition of a particular art work I want to do, determines the medium I will use.
Paintings commissioned in America, Ireland, Italy, Australia and New Zealand as well as on the West Coast of South Africa.
I have my own art group and currently serve on the Council of The South African Art Society (SASA), am Treasurer of the Blaauwberg Art Society (BASE) and am a member of both the Constantiaberg Art Society (CAS) and the West Coast Art Guide.
I am inspired by the beauty around me and want to capture those images on canvas. I have had no formal art training and have to a certain extent, being self-taught, though I have attended classes given by various artists in our area. Further, I attend several workshops given by prominent artists in the Western Cape from time to time. I have been told by art critics that I have a style of my own. Being an ex accountant, I tend to be too precise and am trying to 'loosen up' in my paintings.

Exhibitions

Being a member of SASA (South African Society of Arts) affords me the opportunity to exhibit a painting once a year at the Annual Members' Exhibition held at Kirstenbosch Gardens, Cape Town, SA.

I am proud to say that I got a painting of a garden of a house in Sante Fe, New Mexico, USA, selected (by three judges) for the SASA Exhibition in October 2010.

I also exhibit several times a year at Kirstenbosch through the Constantiaberg Art Society and at various venues on the West Coast through the West Coast Art Guild.

During the period 01 July and 30 September 2011, I will be exhibiting my art work at the Tank Art Gallery, Stellenbosch Hills Winery, Stellenbosch, Western Cape.
