Reference G04 About "In the middle of nowhere" I drove a 300km round trip, first on a salt road from Swakopmund and then on a bad dirt road to take the picture for this painting. This spot is located between Henties Baai and Uis on the West Coast of Namibia. I saw it in passing a few years earlier, and upon return to Swakopmund for a holiday I went back to photograph it. I did however not realise how far inland it was and was about to return back empty handed when I finally reached it. It was everything I remembered. I spent quite a while just sitting there in the mid day heat with the silence almost audible. The only sights visible in the far distance is the Spitzkoppe to the South East (on the painting) and the Brandberg to the North. Apart from that the horizon is flat and empty as far as the eye can see. |
