About "Life's Choices"

I have carried this image in my head since I was a little boy. I read a "choose your own adventure" book and in one of the scenes the author described this paining hanging against the wall. In the book the painting was pure black and white. I however chose to add the colours as it illustrates the meaning this painting had on my life much better.

The horizontal line that originates on the left hand side of the paining represents our first moments on earth (life), and each intersection of the line represents the moments we are faced with choices. some choices are going to benefit us, some will cause harm, and some won't have much effect on the direction of our life.

This paining also taught me that no matter how bad thing get, they can also get better. You will always be able to make choices in your life that will improve your life. It is unfortunately not always clear what the long term effect your choices will have, buy you must always choose and hope.

About P J

P J van Ginkel

I am a qualified Industrial Engineer, and although a lot of my professional work requires creative solutions, I never thought I would create art or anything similar. I was however encouraged by a relative to take up painting. she occasionally sells art and the idea of earning an income from a hobby motivated me to start. I did my first paining in December 2014, and dedicated a substantial amount of time and energy in learning about colour, light and shadow, shape and form, etc.

I do not consider myself a self-taught artist, since that would imply that I know art, I am still teaching myself art everyday.

I am inspired by the feeling of accomplishment and seeing improvement every time I create a new piece. The subject is a secondary thought.
