About "Xhosa Women"

This original oil painting is about the domestic life-styles of two very different Xhosa ladies. I took the reference photos at the Cambridge Informal Settlement near my home in East London. The lady in the fore-ground is a Sangoma. Its Monday morning and she is seen cooking up a potfull of pigs feet. The clay mask that she has worn for the weekend has cracked and is partially faded. Behind her is a typical Mother-figure, seen doing her families washing. Both ladies are working with water. My love of Africa and its people inspired this artwork. Thank you.

About Tim

Tim Glasby

I am a 43 year old professional fine artist. I work full-time from my East London based art studio, in South Africa. I have been an active fine artist for 20 years, and have been commissioned to do many oil paintings and/or pencil drawings by a global clientele.
I am a Photorealist, and so I attempt to use my technical and artistic skills to create perfectly exact PORTRAITS of my subjects, whatever they may be. It takes me as long as 14 working days to do some of my pencil drawings, and up to 6 months to produce 60cm x 90cm oil paintings.
I work from reference photos that I take myself, or from those supplied by my clients. Where required, I can cut and join images to images, and images to backgrounds, according to my clients needs. I charge according to how long each original artwork takes.
