About "Red Bishop Birds"

The Fire-Crowned Bishop is found in parts of central and northern Mozambique and Northern Zimbabwe where there are damp grassy areas in miombo woodland. It is very similar in appearance to the Red Bishop bird. Here the male is in his brilliant red breeding plumage and he displays to the female. While the painting is highly realistic the sinuous line pattern of the curved, partly open, wings of the male is repeated in the grass surrounding the birds, making a pleasing visual effect.
