About Cathy

Cathy Kilfoil

Cathy lives in Cape Town with her husband Jimmy and children Michelle and
Matthew. She is both an artist and a business process analyst.

As a child, she attended art classes at the Port Elizabeth Technicon where a lifelong fascination with materials and techniques began. Here, too, her gift for sketching was nurtured and her passion for horses began to translate into an endless flow of drawings and paintings. Indeed, over the years, the form of the horse has been an ongoing source of inspiration and she has created over 20 portraits. These reflect a vast knowledge of equine physiology and also Cathy's uncanny ability to capture the very essence of her subjects. Her work is imbued with nuance - from the subtle shadings to a delicate interplay between the structural elements of her animals.

From 2004 to 2008, Cathy attended Art classes at the Bellville Art Centre, under the dynamic guidance of Zaria de Villiers. Her work has been featured in the Student Exhibitions of 2004, 2005 and 2006. Cathy says: 'Apart from the technical aspect, I learn something new from each
painting I complete - like patience, gratitude, grace and humility. I love the sense of accomplishment that comes from using God's gift to create something. Sometimes a picture or scene will capture my attention and something in me says 'I must paint this'. I am inspired by the
people who respond to my paintings with delight, my friends and family who encourage and support me and other artists who believe in me, even when I doubt myself.
