Brian van der Spuy - "Drizzly Day"
Oil on Board
W: 180mm x H: 130mm x D: 3mm
This work is unframed
My uncle, who was a vastly better artist than I will ever be, once told me something that has served as inspiration ever since. Children, he said, find absolutely everything beautiful, but we lose this ability to see the beauty all around us as we grow older. And he was right: watch children at play and you'll often see them being fascinated by the visual world around them, from the more obviously beautiful things like magnificent clouds or crashing waves at a rocky beach, to the far more mundane, like the complex patterns of veins in a fallen leaf, or the way in which light falls through a glass bottle. The more you look around you, the more you see what an intricately beautiful place the universe all around us is, if only you can look with the eyes of your inner child.
Some of my work is currently being exhibited at Portchie Art Gallery at 786 Frederika Street, Rietfontein, Pretoria.
B.Sc. Botany and Zoology (Unisa). Self-trained as artist.
