About "Maidens Feeding Swans"
The painting is attributed to August Hopfgarten a famous German artist born in 1807. Unfortunately the painting is damaged due to being rolled up for an extended period. The original was said to have been painted in 1838 after he attended a scholarship in Rome. It was then sold to the king of Prussia, there is a reference to this work once hanging in the great palace. Thereafter it was said the king donated it to a museum in Berlin. The work was examined by experts who estimated the date to 1830-1840. (The time of the original.) The only reference to this work we can find is a lithograph on EBAY and a French needlework dated to the late 19th century, website below. rubylane.com/item/6041-PS02-04-09-04/French-19th-C-Needlepoint-Tapestry This work is mentioned in Zerstört, entführt, verschollen: die Verluste der preussischen Schlösser im Zweiten Weltkrieg (Destroyed, taken off, missing: the losses of the Prussian Palaces in the Second World War)

About Paul
A good painting should get your attention and draw you into the picture. A great painting should do all of the above and more importantly it should make you express emotion. Paintings that instill emotions of joy, love, sadness, surprise or peace are irresistible to me. I also feel it[0x1]s important for the artist to capture the soul of the subject and not just the shell. I love challenging and keeping my mind occupied so painting is the perfect outlet for me.
