About "Running (Protective Mother Elephant)"

This work is unframed (but can be supplied either framed or unframed).

The African Elephant is the largest living land mammal, one of the most impressive animals on earth. The elephant's muscular trunk serves as a nose, hand, extra foot, signaling device and a tool for gathering food, siphoning water, dusting, digging and a variety of other functions. The long trunk permits the elephant to reach as high as 23 feet. The tusks grow for most of an elephant's lifetime and are an indicator of age. Size: Up to 11 feet; Weight 3 and a half - 6 and a half tons.

About Frans

Frans Matlala

I come from a small village called Ga-Molapo in Limpopo,South Africa. I'm from a poor family background and as a child I wanted all the beautiful toys that I saw in the magazines. Unfortunately we did not have the means to afford such luxuries and I had to use whatever resources I had available to make my own toys. I would use mud, wire, tin or carton (basically anything I could find.) I started selling some of the toys to the kids in my village and tried to generate a small income for myself. My passion for art started at an early age and it was only when I went to High School that my true talent emerged. My teacher encouraged me to study fine art after I finished High School I did fine art at the Wits Technikon but because of financial difficulty I was not able to reach that dream. I still have much to learn, art is not a hobby like some might think. My art reflects my heritage, spirit, lifestyle and my soul.
