Artists Biography
Ross Kerr
Artwork Information:
My Artwork consists mainly of large scale splash paintings and smaller graphite works on paper, all in the vein of Outsider/Naive Art.
I do not attempt to make a sophisticated or intellectual statement in my work, but rather allow myself to be lead by the paintbrush or pencil etc, so to speak, and not the thoughts of what is “wrong” or “right” regarding all aspects of learned techniques and so forth.
I allow techniques to be discovered and not taught, and any interpratation of my work by the viewer is the correct one.
The only real account which remains consistent in all of my work is that I create Artwork to liberate myself from psychosomatic distress and the symptoms of mental illness in general.
Being a self taught artist has worked dominantly in my favour, as the contemporary artworld has taken note of my work as being fresh and uninhibited.
Personally the latter is the supreme compliment
I am free in my work, and aim to please only myself, open minded art collectors and curators of exhibitions with a taste for up and coming contemporary artists, shrugging any lack of formal training, and purely seeing a significance and spark in an artists work and the investment potential.
My artwork falls into this category effortlessly.
I feel I am fortunate to have been able to be true and liberated in my artwork.
I feel I am especially fortunate to have discovered my own niche, which is of major significance for any artist.
I have seen too many individuals with superb talent becoming bogged down without inspiration-inspiration, in my opinion, should never be sporadic, coming and going and so forth.
Inspiration never eludes me.
Gallery owners, collectors, investors and curators are at the top my priority list.
It is an especial thrill to make an impact on hard nosed art critics, who most often overlook talent which is of magnitude.
The important aspect is to disregard any downbeat criticism (save CONSTRUCTIVE criticism) and just DO WHAT YOU DO.It is tough enough as it is to make inroads in such a competitive business in the first place.
This mindset, albeit nothing innovative, is the way I operate.
I love my paintings, sketches and designs, and I will be as innovative and eccentric in my behaviour and artwork as I please, and if it is frowned upon-whatever.
Indifference or skeptisism is not worth my while.
I will focus on the appreciation and approval despite any obstacles.
This I take to heart due to ANY artist with sufferings coupled with optimism and confidence in their work.
Giving my painting titles are of the only real intellectual significance to me.
Regardless of what a work might be visually, it is of importance to entitle my artwork candidly.
A title does speak a thousand words.
I have exhibited my work extensively in South Africa and abroad up to and including 25 Exhibitions.
Best Regards.
