About Joanne

Joanne Reen

Joanne is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

My work is an investigation into the sentimentality of traditional landscapes. The paintings are characterised and influenced by a delicate, refined feeling and are based on my emotional considerations, especially my romantic notions regarding Nieu Bethesda and its immediate environs. In contrast to this romanticism, I express the dichotomy within and towards the landscape, relating to man's connection with nature. Images of telephone poles, farm implements, roads and concrete water troughs are symbolic reference to man's interferences yet also implicate a shared existence with the environment and act as nostalgic reminders of a bygone era.
