Debra is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

Debra Anne Schwulst (nee Warmenhoven) was born in 1978 in Pietersburg (Polokwane) and raised in the majestic Transvaal ‘bushveld’. She came of age in Graaff-Reinet, the gem of the Karoo, where she attended the Union schools, and matriculated from Hermanus High. After travelling abroad, she qualified as a Montessori educator in Cape Town, working extensively on a one-on-one basis with special needs children. It was her experience with autism that catalysed the abstract aspect of her art as she embraced the fact that it is not only through conventional methods of communication that one is able to convey powerful messages and express deep emotion.
Having had numerous creative outlets through the years, her art career began quite by chance in 2008; after viewing her work, a local gift shop owner encouraged her to approach 2 prominent galleries in Hermanus, who immediately added her work to their portfolio’s. She has subsequently had a number of interior decorators/designers purchasing her art for private homes, as well as boutique lodges in Africa. She lives in Hermanus again with her husband and son, and is painting on a full-time basis.
Debra works predominantly in oils and combines various other media to achieve a greater element of movement and depth.
