DECEASED ARTIST - NO WORK FOR SALE UNTILL FURTHER NOTICE
A love of nature study, the outdoors and wildlife has been my inspiration ever since I bought a microscope at the age of 7 and started sketching things I found in the veld and, later, in the wilder areas of Northern Rhodesia/Zambia and wherever else I've lived or travelled. My current passion is seascapes and harbour views, in Gordon's Bay and the False Bay area of the Western Cape where I'm fortunate enough to live.
I started painting seriously, thanks to Miss Jeanne Lester-Brown, my art teacher at Chingola High School, achieving an A aggregate for art and winning two awards in a schools competition at the Kitwe Agricultural Show in 1964. I furthered my studies with Pam Sachse, a pupil of Bernard Dunstan in London, for a year at the Pietermaritzburg Technical College. Thereafter, I practised art full time, from 1983.
Important Note: In 2008, I discovered another artist, in London, also named "Graeme Wilson" so, to avoid confusion, I started painting under the nom de peintre "Rutgert Griessel" after my late father who was of Dutch descent. Thus, most paintings after 2008 will be signed "Rutgert" or "Rutgert Griessel". Certificates of Authenticity can be supplied for all my paintings, on request.
