About "THIS IS IT!"
This is a very old work. In those days I saw computers as adding machines. The internet had been around in the 70's within the U.S.A Military but LITTLE did I know the internet as it is NOW was waiting in the wings! Confusing? read on... I FEEL IT IMPERATIVE I PUT THIS WORK UP! I was studying Fine Art at Durban Technikon. I combined sculpture and painting for this work. A competition came up whereby we were given random objects - I was presented with 'computer components' as they were termed then and thought how damn boring - I didn't know what they were & they were tiny - 2 metal objects [ plugs I called them back then! ] a male and a female. 10 or 12 artists/students would 'win' out of the Fine Arts Dept & be chosen to contribute their pieces at Nasrec show grounds Jhb, where we were transported to. All proceedings went to S.A.N.T.A. The works were auctioned. I did an impromptu 'auctioneer stunt' [ I didn't know I wasn't supposed to be the auctioneer! the crowd loved this & it sold the work! ] was sold to a businessman and his wife for their office premises. I believe in charity but I wanted some of that cash back then hehe ***thanks Clive Kellner for holding the door up to be photographed when I couldn't make it to Nasrec the next day!*** I left this work till the last minute as I had NO IDEA what to do. My aunt had a dream and told me it had to be a door & be called THIS IS IT! I went to demolishers & bought the oldest door I could find. I painted it a great bright red. The components were painted onto wooden panels and placed inside the existing panels of the door. We had a crit and I was flawed when told to remove the red paint and take the door back to itz old original condition! Little did I know - it was the beginning of my career... I hacked off all the fresh enamel, leaving the red borders and took it back to a wreck, further wrecking it - wonderful surface, great tactile qualities. ***thanks to John Roome*** To this day, I use this technique on furniture! AND USE COMPUTERS & THE INTERNET - LIKE RIGHT NOW :-) ... Internet's portal - THE DOOR WAS OPENED ... c'mon Cyberaunt/Cyberhen... serial and parallel ports are old news, itz now usb etc... time for the NEXT DREAM PLEASE? ;-)

About Warwick
Warwick is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.
Hi! Please stay a while & read this?(I hope you enjoy reading:-) I MAJORED IN SCULPTURE BUT AM A MULTI MEDIA ARTIST & COLOURIST! NOT arrogant! PASSIONATE! I do mostly Paint Techniques & Mural work in homes, hotels, offices, restaurants, shopping malls, Theme parks etc, etc so I'm busy with canvases & other media in my own time, as murals take up most of my time for now, earning my daily bread. I've done work in the U.K - some was for John Oliver in London who provided Princess Diana with some of her Paints/colours, fabrics & wallpaper. He uses his own Colour palette which allowed my love of colour to be explored in a trendy commercial way. Different to my art! Also done work in France = Paris & Holland = Amsterdam.
I'm available for commissions - figures or any subject matter at all. I've decided I'll be uploading a broad spectrum of my work on here, so that therez something that will hopefully appeal to most. I'm available for any type of design work: book illustrations [includes cover] as well as computer generated images, sculpture, ceramics. I also make my own Frames according to specifications if required for paintings etc. no limits...
I LOVE painting on old doors from demolishers/scrap yards, old wooden gates, furniture etc etc etc, if it grabs my eye, I grab IT! Everything transforms - I help these pieces along the way :-)
I deleted lots of this: I decided it was waaay too long, verbose, & I think I sounded arrogant - I wrote a novel, & have ended up writing another, even longer! :-? I LIVE & OPERATE THROUGH MY INTUITION. As i said I'm a COLOURIST & am fascinated by colour, held in awe & wonderment, obsessed! Colour is merely the breakdown/decomposition of white light = sheer magic for me, although not hocus pocus but science. I'm fascinated by invisible light outside the visible spectrum too, personally, this is where the meeting of flesh & an aspect of spirit are physically tangible. Spirituality is an integral part of my life & the expression thereof.
I'm equally fascinated by different cultures & the human spirit/psyche = humanity. I think Man is both an utterly ingenious & stupid creature! Capable of both such tremendous creativity & destruction. I love the world of nature perhaps more[outdoor nature man], both fauna & flora, landscapes etc yet I haven't painted this world for a long time! I have NO idea why!? I must do some works soon! I studied Horticulture before studying Fine Art = I love plants & TREES! Back to Man - I think the human spirit can be both the most beautiful and repulsive thing - my choice is to depict beauty, although sometimes something ugly cries out to be displayed & released. I cannot pretend all is beauty & float around in an unrealistic 'love bubble.' In order for something to be sublime, beautiful, there has to be a polarity = ugly? degradation? destruction? death? Beauty certainly is in the eye of the beholder but there is ALWAYS a yard stick with some definite parameters. I certainly believe in love & to transcend towards the higher self is always what I aim for. I love balance/harmony as I always see the duality in life & try to weigh the scales evenly but the human spirit/psyche is sometimes at war with itself or the flesh; in turmoil, degraded or discordant - again my preference is balance but sometimes the discord needs expression. So beauty & joy as well as pain, will sometimes be depicted in my works. I don't believe there are too many creative rules, well not for me personally - I follow my intuition. not pushing boundaries but creating my own new spaces. Creativity if caged either loses itz soul or can be dangerous! My work isn't political, there are enough political prophets, although living in S.Africa with such a diverse political & cultural climate, both past & present - itz unavoidable to have no socio-political influence at all in one's life experience as an individual, as an artist.
Thanks for your time... you can breathe ezee now :-) Warwick/eye
