About Susan

Susan Tabor was born in Cape Town but grew up in Zimbabwe. She trained at the Michaelis School of Fine Art; University of Cape Town and then traveled to London where she put her creative abilities to work in the advertising world.

After a long hiatus, during which she married and had three children, Tabor has begun creating art once again. She is versatile, painting in various media from oils to ink and colour wash, depending on her subjects which range from the sprightly vervet monkey to the belligerent buffalo.

As an artist, Tabor is influenced and inspired by the Impressionist school, “I am fascinated by the art of capturing the moment, the impression of light and movement. I find an elemental truth in nature and this is what I strive to express through my art. I look for the essence of my subject and try to capture its ‘feeling’, its presence and its unique attitudes.” She has spent most of her life observing Africa and its wildlife and has developed an intimate knowledge of her subjects and their habitats. These influences are prevalent in Tabor’s sensitive and expressive paintings and sketches.
