James Delaney

James is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

James has a passion for the beauty and moods reflected in the skies over the highveld, playing with changing light and textures on the canvas. There is an intense elemental feel in his work which manages to bring out complex messages in simple, balanced imagery.

Although his earlier work focused on classical compositions of minimal colour, James’s later paintings have evolved to capture a more elemental force - finding inspiration in Africa’s rich, earthy cultural symbols. His fascination with the shifting moods of the sky is depicted through calm blue horizons or fiery sunsets, echoing themes explored by Turner over a century ago. The linear shapes and contrasting textures of his abstract pieces allude to changing light in the sky in a more interpreted manner.

His finished work has been bought by South Africa’s corporate sector as well as by private collectors locally and abroad.
