Gentle lady holding a lamb
About "Maria's Lamb"
This painting form part of my series of the lovely local people of Cape Town and surrounds. The landscape is inspired by the fields outside Grootte Post Wine Farm. I try to portray the tenderness of the lady towards a foundling lamb. The spectator may decide whether there are religious overtones in the work.

South African Impressionist and Figurative painter, Marie Theron (b. 1944) lives and paints on Durban’s Berea. This climate that she knows well from having lived here many years ago, has lead to bright and light Impressionistic figurative work. From 1991 to 2013 she lived in the Cape where she was totally enthralled by the West Coast. Her popular blog covered more than 200 paintings on the West Coast, a few which are available on this website.
The artist has held solo exhibitions both locally and overseas, and has participated in exclusive group exhibitions. Investors in her oil and acrylic works range from foreign embassies, corporate offices, guesthouses, libraries, hospitals and international private collectors. Her work has sold in Australia, Britain, Canada, Croatia, Ireland, Hungary, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and the USA (more than 30 paintings in America) She was commissioned by the Ass of Arts Pretoria, the Croatian Embassy and Academia Cravatica in Zagreb to submit a painting "Sister Power" for "The Challenge of the Tie", a world-touring permanent exhibition which toured Pretoria, Johannesburg, Brussels, Prague and Brazilia in 2005 and further around the globe in 2006.
