(with the artist)
I love roses. They are romantic and regal and just plain beautiful. Although quite a challenge to paint with all those petals, paintings of roses as well as the real thing just can't help but lift the spirits.
Surita is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.
I was born and raised in the city of Pretoria, South Africa. Since I can remember, drawing and painting have been my favourite things to do. My dad used to bring stacks and stacks of used computer paper from work for us kids to draw on, it was the best thing he could have done. The seeds of creativity had been sown even before that, I believe it has been part of Godís plan for my life from the moment He knew that I would exist. Creativity runs in our family, from my beloved grandmother, Anna Stander, a hat maker and mother of six who used to win prizes for her baking and sowing and flower arranging; to my mother Sara who does everything, even the mundane, with creative flair. I used to put creativity and art in a box, I thought it was just about paintings and sculptures, but as Iíve grown older and learned from the people around me, Iíve realized it can form part of everything you do. Since 1994, after finishing high school, Iíve been making art in all kinds of ways: drawing, painting, illustrating, flower arranging, making handmade wedding invitations, organizing functions, crafting, designing and making jewelry, cooking, baking, writing, and in resent years, doing graphic design. As the sister of a very creative teacher, Iíve also had to try my hand at designing stage dťcor and had to help come up with ideas for all manner of cultural events that form part of school life. Taking everything in account, I feel there is still much more that I could do with the talents that God has entrusted to me. At present Iím concentrating on going back to basics, on freshening up my style and learning some new things, like oil painting (which Iíve not tried before) with a focus on light and color. Because Iíve been doing so many different things over the past 15 years, Iíve yet to exhibit my paintings in a gallery. Doing it now on this sight is the first step to realizing that dream.
