Height: Male=112cm (about 3 1/2 feet); Female=97cm (about 3 feet)

About Frans

Frans Matlala

Frans is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

I come from a small village called Ga-Molapo in Limpopo,South Africa. We were very poor when I grew up but like any child I wanted all the beautiful toys that I saw in the magazines. Unfortunately we did not have the means to afford such luxuries and I had to use whatever resources I had available to make my own toys. I would use mud, wire, tin or carton (basically anything I could find.) I started selling some of the toys to the kids in my village and tried to generate a small income for myself. My passion for art started at an early age and it was only when I went to High School that my true talent emerged. My teacher encouraged me to study fine art after I finished High School I did fine art at the Wits Technikon but because of financial difficulty I was not able to reach that dream. I still have much to learn, art is not a hobby like some might think. My art reflects my heritage, spirit, lifestyle and my soul.
