About Emile

Emile Manefeldt

Emile is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

I am an artist that takes stimulation from my direct surroundings and uses it to enrich my art. Feathers collected at a visit to the zoo, mythological stories told to my children, the overwhelming effect of medieval and renaissance art and architecture seen on a visit to Italy - all can be seen reflected in my art.
I like to explore and use natural materials such as wooden panels, feathers and handmade paper.
In combining the aged effect of the panels with the glorious colouring of the icon style I would like to portray the symbolic meaning of the icons in a modern narrative.
The natural effect of handmade paper with its special texture supplements the effect of line in the linocut, which is applicable especially with the Greek Mythological theme and gives it the feel of old, manuscripts.
Using natural feathers in my drawings exposes not only the fragility of the feather itself, but also that of human beings and I use this medium to comment on emotions I observe in society.
In stimulating the intellectual interaction between my artwork and the observer, I feel my work complete.
