About Chantal

Chantal is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

I was born and raised in Port Elizabeth, and studied at the School of Art and Design at the then Port Elizabeth Technikon, where I majored in Graphic Design. After many years of working as an artist for Printing Companies and later for a Decorative Sandblasting Company in Johannesburg, I moved back home to Port Elizabeth and joined a sandblasting business in PE. I had always wanted to paint, but not having studied Fine Art, was a bit afraid and unsure. Eventually, I started painting small canvasses and selling them at a local market where I was also selling my sandblasted glassware. I was asked to paint a mural for someone, and one thing led to another. I have been painting murals for about 7 years now and in the last 3 years have also done a lot more commissioned work on canvas as well as having sold some work through a local gallery.

I love colour and my paintings are usually very vibrant. I have no special message that I am trying to convey in my work - only perhaps that there is so much ugliness in the world now and in my small way I am trying to bring in a bit of beauty - or show off some of the beauty of nature!
