About "Lavender Field at Sunset"

I'm always inspired by a magnificent sunset. This painting came about when I was on the road to a little town in the karoo called Barrydale.

We passed the most spectacular lavender fields just as the sun was setting. I got an idea from there to try and reinterpret what I saw.

I needed a vast area to paint on, so I went for a larger than normal canvas. I wanted to really express the colours and vigour of a South African sunset — to do it justice and draw the viewer into the painting.

I wanted the rows of lavender to give a sense of depth as your eye travels to the center of the piece.

About Cherie

Cherie Roe Dirksen

Cherie is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

"Artistry in any form is something personal that you can share with the world...it is a reflection of life through the eyes of one divine soul trying to leave a signature behind." ~CRD

Well, that's one way of putting it. My art is how I interpret the world around me, it is how I experience reality and how I want my reality to be experienced. I popped out of my mother’s womb, brush in hand — okay, not quite but I do remember starting to show a keen interest in drawing and painting at a very early age.

The semantics of how and why I got to be in the painters chair is a journey on it's own and can be read about more at my site.

In a nutshell, why paint? What's behind my inspiration?

“Life is a palette of unbelievable colors in a sea of energy.”

The place where my art resides is a magical world founded on imagination and extends beyond limitations. It's chaos and it's beauty, it's wonder and and it's reality. When I paint, I escape into pure creation.
