About "Pots of Flowers"

The bright colours of these mixed flowers in ceramic vases was waiting to be painted. I used a combination of drawn and painted line to depict this colourful combination.

About Susan

Susan is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

Trees Space and Light
Trees, space and light are central in my work at this time. The colour and the brightness of patches of sky or distant grasslands through the branches and leaves of trees remains in my minds eye long after I have moved on but returns spontaneously when I begin to paint. The square format of my paintings denotes a ‘patch’ of landscape rather than the whole ’picture’ almost like a metre of cloth – a part of the whole. Having been a ceramist most of my life I find the immediacy of paint, exciting. No need to wait for the kiln to fire or the pots to dry but just choose the colours and paint them directly onto the canvas.

Interior paintings
Paintings of pots, vessels and containers within an interior space is a ongoing theme of my work. As a ceramist, objects are of great importance to me, I enjoy their presence and use them for flowers or as containers for fruit and other temporally precious collections. The importance of interior space and light varies from the natural, outside space and light and is an interesting comparison between the two genres.
