(with the artist)
My love for Cape Town's mountains and fynbos makes me very protective. I wish I could do something to encourage other people to help preserve this delicate, rich and beautiful environment. So the thought of re-making trees and bushes, using scrap fabrics tickles me. I collect African patterned fabrics and collage with them. Then I sketch and draw over the collaged fabrics.
Janet is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.
As an artists, I am officially permitted to be interested in everything! I am inspired by daily life, glimpses of faces in the traffic, news stories of everyday heroines and the quiet rituals of friendship. Currently I am exploring ways to paint an aggregate of these events that make life worthwhile, as a series of deities for the agnostic.
Paintings and drawings in private collections, SA, Germany, UK, USA and Botswana National Gallery.
BA (UCT) drawing and painting courses Tate Cornwall, Penzance Ar
