About Johann Petrus

Johann Petrus is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

The artist grew up in the Karoo and graduated from the University of Potchefstroom with a B.A. Fine Arts degree (drawing and sculpture) in the late seventies. For the next two decades he works mostly as a freelance illustrator and became well known for the beloved Karl Poskabouter and Peter Penpusher illustrations that appeared weekly in HUISGENOOT and YOU magazines . As a spraygun artist/graphic designer his work on sail- and surfboards was also high in demand in the Cape Town area.
During these years he had several solo exhibitions of his children’s illustrations, but also managed four solo’s of his ‘more serious’ art (Cape Town, Potchefstroom, Worcester, Pretoria) and took part in numerous duo and group exhibitions. At present he resides in Worcester and, apart from teaching art, concentrates fulltime on painting, drawing and sculpting.
Due to his restless nature, he never lingers too long in one genre or medium, but frequently moves between disciplines.
His art is represented in numerous private collections in South Africa as well as abroad.
