About Janet

Janet is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

Born in South Africa and living in the Karoo, I strive to create beautiful pieces of art that transport one to the essence of the subject. I have been drawing and painting most of my life. My style of painting is Impressionistic Expressionism, causing an emotional connection between the viewer and the painting. One must feel the textures, smell the air, hear the sounds, see the colour, and taste the atmosphere.

I paint in my studio overlooking the majestic Swartberg mountains and the beauty that surrounds, me inspires me. I love colour and light and I am constantly fascinated by the way that a certain light can radically change the character and impact of a subject, and make it something unique. Space and poetry of form also intrigue me. Living in Prince Albert in the karoo I find the unique lighting and vast spaces of this beautiful land constantly provide me with infinate inspiration.

My work conveys a subliminal energy. I paint from the heart and use variations of brushstroke to create vitality and life in my paintings. Oil painting is my primary tool. I enjoy the richness and depth of colour that can be achieved in this medium. My subject matter consists of the world directly around me and atmospheric landscapes that transport one into the essence of the subject.
