View all 3 works by Oskar Verwey About Oskar Oskar is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa. My medium of choice is oil paint and charcoal and my subject of choice is people, especially portraits. I find nothing more interesting, challenging and satisfying than translating a moment or idea onto an expression on a body or a face. This is probably the main reason that I like all my work to have an element of realism to it. It only needs a small element but I can’t finish a piece of work until it’s there. Unless the image specifically calls for something else, I prefer to work with a pallet made up of warmer, especially earth tone colours. I like to keep all colours to a minimum and toned down (or even monotone) to put emphasis on the shape of the subject and it’s interaction with the space it occupies on the canvas or paper.
