Riaan is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa. I do not ascribe high academic, psychological or philosophical undertones to my paintings – they are what they are. To me painting is an escape mechanism, like a fisherman who thinks only of the immediate challenges but with the advantage that I always end up with something in the bag. I work relatively fast and prefer the results of spontaneous / expressive brush strokes without becoming abstract but also not intent on portraying absolute realism but rather an image that is still recognisable to the human brain.
