About "Spirit of the Namib"

The vanishing herds of our Gemsbok, as well as our other animals, such as the rhino - the oneness of the animal with its environment. People who are uncaring of the beauty of the integral exhistance, the fulness of the desert that is not visible to all who see it.

About Marianna

My love of art began as a child when growing up in an artistic environment. My father was an artist and my mother was a potter. I studied art formally and also did an apprenticeship for seven years. Being exposed to nature through game reserves and our beautiful country, I have tried to show it through my work, and also through the history that fascinates me. The early Portuguese travellers and their brave conquests of new lands brought out the historian in me, and the challenges of painting their stories through art has inspired me for many years.

Exhibitions

I have not exhibited formally in galleries, but have showcased at expo’s and undertaken formal commissions due to the nature of my work as a historical artist. My work has been seen by thousands of people. Since retirement I am now painting for my own enjoyment, but still willing to work on consignments.

Education

JHB School of Art, Apprenticeship to Gordon Vorster
