South African born fine artist Leone Tonkinson (1963 -)
Leone Tonkinson graduated from The Pretoria School of Art, Music and Ballet, with a University exemption for graphic and commercial art.
She went on to study CAD Industrial Architecture, Graphic design, Illustration, and Desk Top Publishing.
The artist left a 13-year career in Architecture and 163 oil painting portraits behind her to pursue her BA Fine Art Degree at UNISA. Within her second year of study she worked as a BA Fine Arts Lecturer at CAUSE Academy. Here Leone furthered her studies in Entrepreneurship and Business Development.
In 2000, the artist became the founding director of Tonkinson Studios cc. and in 2002 it became The Port Elizabeth School of Fine Art.
In 2006, to ensure accreditation for her courses and on the request of NMMU, the artists sort a sabbatical in Europe. While studying abroad, she fell in love with the Dutch culture and her people and decided to make the Netherlands her home. Here she registered a private Art School namely, TonkinsonARTmasters, lovingly known as TAM Art School.

"Leone Tonkinson, (www.tonkinson-art.com), South African born fine artists, captures the essence of life in her work. Her dynamic approach to realism is awe-inspiring as she depicts the trans-formative effects of light dancing with color. Her application is confident and full of energy.
Her reverence for nature and love of oil painting techniques, weather she paints in plein air or sets up in her studio, conveys a sense of immediacy and harmony that we feel within our natural environment. She plays to the strengths of her medium to achieve a well-balanced collection of textures, from velvety surfaces to soft color merges to crystal-clear and vibrant hues, all in one piece.
Leone's artwork is included in numerous private art collections in France, Kutna Hora, Scotland, South Africa, The Netherlands, UK and the USA.
Her commissioned work mostly consisting of African wild life, wild life, pet portraits and family portraits.
Today Leone is still active and lives in a quaint town called Radio Kootwijk, situated on "de Veluwe" in a Nature Reserve.
Despite her busy schedule, offering Workshops at three studio locations in the Netherlands, Leone still finds the time to host exhibitions with her Student Artists.
