About Johan Vlok
Johan Vlok Louw
I studied Art and Design in the late 1989`s, but branched off into the corporate environment soon thereafter.
For the last 7 years, however, I`ve been blessed enough to paint and write full time, culminating in the publication of my novels Eric the Brave (Random House, 2012) and Karoo Dusk (translated into Afrikaans as "Die Sirkel van Bekende Dinge) by Penguin Random House, in 2014.
A third novel, Gap in the Hedge, is coming out in the latter half of 2017.
Eric the Brave was long-listed for the Sunday Times literary prize and Karoo Dust short-listed for the JCU prize for creative English literature.
Although writing takes up much time and commitment, painting will always remain my first love. In my pictures I like to, as in my novels, explore both the magic and mayhem of this unique thing we call life.
Forever the storyteller, I feel no work of art complete without a visual narrative explored, discovered , and captured.
