About "Urban Poetry 7 Sounds Through the Window"

It was once the siren of police, but I think the most dominate sound of Johannesburg has to be the honking horn of the minibus taxis.

About Carmen

Carmen Wakeford

Hi there, Thank you for spending your time here. A little bit about me, I was born in 1967 in Ficksburg, in the Orange Free State and lived on a farm called Fraaiuisig until school going age. Farm life, in those early years, gave me the freedom to explore and get to know Nature and her seasons intimately and I'm sure this is why I am drawn to the simplicity of life and return to Nature time and time again to gain perspective and healing.

In the past I have used acrylics as my medium, but recently I have enjoyed the process of creating digital composites to give rise to one of a kind photomontage images. Symbolism is found often in my photo art and the narrative usually conveys a mood or attitude to give meaning to a moment in time, as all photographic images should.

My love of photographs was actually passed down from my father, he was a photographer in his spare time. He took a photograph of me running on Durban beach just out of toddler phase which I treasure and in this snap shot he masterfully captured my reflection and my shadow in the shine of the backwash. To me, this image is a representation of the present, the past and the future and it reminds me to be conscious of everything to keep life in balance in order to maintain my positive outlook.

My hope is that you find something in my artistic expression that will inspire you to find beauty where ever you look, and that you'll experience the depth of love, consideration and care I wish to pass on through the images I create.
