About Marina

Marina Stander

Marina is inspired by things that 'speak' to her, something that depicts emotion in some or other way: music, children, hands (she used to be a music teacher), friends, animals (especially cats)nature and photographs. She can't get enough of all the beautiful things God has created.
She has always liked creating something, but in the past this was restricted to various small crafts, music and sewing. The urge to paint has lain dormant inside her for many years and there are quite a few artists amongst her relatives, but she only started art as a hobby after retiring as a teacher. She took lessons from a local well qualified artist and friend, Mrs Trienkie Bennie (from 2007 to 2010) and a few online watercolour courses with Mrs Suset Maakal from New castle, South Africa. Marina has tried out many mediums, but enjoys watercolours most, and loves what she does. Every time she sells a painting, she feels happy but also sad at losing something dear to her.

Exhibitions

Several local group exhibitions while staying in the beautiful Piet Retief, Mpumalanga. Piet Retief is a rural town almost on the Swaziland border and opportunities are few. Artists have to travel far to exhibit. More recently she has exhibited at a few Saturday craft markets and two Christmas markets in Parys.

Education

BA (Languages) and HED (Old teacher's post graduate diploma).
