About "A Safer Station"
I was inspired by a photograph of a model sitting on a remote bench, waiting for the next train at a station. We live in uncertain times with lots of violence, murder and theft all around us. There seem to be no safe place on earth anymore. I came up with the idea to paint a painting with a bench without anyone sitting on the bench, somewhere on a remote but very small island in the middle of the ocean. The idea is to draw the viewer's attention INTO the painting and let him or her wonder whether there was actually someone sitting on that bench a while ago and, if so, did he or she went for a quick swim or were they abducted by pirates? One of those works of art that makes one ask questions...

I liked drawing things from an early age - I remember trying to capture the beauty of the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, my country of birth when I was a mere four years old! I guess I can say I enjoy to create, whether it is an oil painting or an etching, it does not really matter what I am creating, as long as I enjoy what I am doing.
I think it is the whole process of being immersed in my work while creating it, my eyes see something, my heart gets a feeling for the subject and then, the final stage, my hands make the artwork. Life inspires me - people around me, wildlife in their wild surroundings, the beauty of God's creations - I try to capture this all in my art.
