Reference ccsa12 About "Aurora" The brown summer grasses turn into a mass of colour in spring after good winter rain in the Karoo. Aurora is a small village in Namaqualand/Karoo along the West Coast of South Africa. The peace and quiet that dry summers bring get overturned by the beauty of colours when the winter rain stops. This little village is overrun by visitors that go to appreciate the miracle of flowers. Although the painting is of the brown summer, its shows the beauty of the landscape itself that is other wise being overwhelmed by the colour of flowers. |

Born in Brakpan, South Africa from german parents, I developed a fascination for replicating reality on a flat surface at a very young age and completed my first oil-painting at the age of ten under the guidence of Dianne Johnson Ackerman. Art as an income generator was never an option in those days and started a degree in Languages at RAU. Worked as landscaper for 17 years and was diagnosed with fast developing melanomas of a malignant nature, and had to minimise time spent in the sun. I took my art more seriously and never looked back. Started an art school to seed the joy and therapy of art with others.
