About "Baynesfield House - front"

Baynefield, near Richmond KZN, is steeped in seldom heard history - the first butter making plant in South Africa, pioneers in cattle dipping and much much more. The hoem is a well preserved museum and the gardens something to behold. An extremely well run Trust still runs the original farm which in addition to standard crops like maize, is big on Avocados and has a piggery. The trust also supports many education initiatives. The grounds are home to a fantastic museum of old vehicles, tractors and farm vehicles.

About Brian

Brian Rogers

The artist's philosophy:
As an artist I am fascinated by the interplay between light and colour. Not just the standard effects of shadow and radiance, but the unexpected light that changes both the expectation of shadow and the colour wheal. I will keep on exploring this throughout my artistic career and hopefully get bolder.

Why is my art different?
1.My flower-landscape work stands out for optimism. There seems to be a trend lately for artists to explore darkness, even with bright colours. Whilst my flower-landscapes are characterized by an aggressive use of colour, my pallet remains relatively light. I prefer my colours bright and cheerful, even if my reference is dull by nature. It's my job to bring the subject alive and give it new life - a second chance.
2.My "Through the door/window" series is pretty unique in the painting world today; however, it's a very popular and effective tool of the modern photographer. I believe it transports the viewer from not just seeing the view, but taking some ownership through 'my' door or 'my' window. I hope, in the same way to create greater focus on the subject I'm painting by channelling the view.

About the artist:
BR is the nickname I have always been known as - when people feel affection for me! So I carried it over; and all my art is signed 'BR'.

I was an international advertising and marketing executive in South Africa, South East Asia and Europe until I burned out, my health suffered and life spiralled out of control. In 2014 I was lucky enough to have two amazing women kick my butt out of the gutter of self-pity. Michelle Scott Prozesky yanked me into her studio class and put a brush in my hand as a means of therapy. Ginny (now Rogers) saw something else in me and married me. Ginny constantly inspires me, with her enthusiasm for who I am, my art and my creativity.
