About "Black Oystercatcher"
I was enamoured with classic bird artists/ornithologists like Audubon and especially P.A. Clancey and wanted to create a painting in a similar style. I chose a South African endemic, the plucky African Black Oystercatcher. The bird is depicted life-size, filling much of the artwork space and is depicted on its shoreline habitat.
I love wildlife and being in nature. I particularly love birds and am happiest when I'm in the middle of nowhere with a pair of binoculars in my hands. I would love to live out in the bush, but for now I'm living in the city, working as an illustrator and designer until I can fulfil my dream. Most of my paintings seem to be of birds or big cats - definitely my favourite subjects, but by no means the only ones I paint.
