About "Celebrating Friendship"

Celebration of friendship and love inspired me to paint this work.
I also wanted to emphasise movement.

About Maritza

Maritza Van Zyl

I was born in Worcester in 1977 and from a very young age started drawing and painting. At High School I had art as one of my major subjects. I've experimented with a wide variety of mediums and found that I best enjoy working with acrylics because I work at a fast pace. I've also given private art classes to pre-school and high school students. One of my pieces featured on the Woolworths reusable shopping bags which were distributed over the country. Over the years I've sold quite a number of pieces.
I've become aware of painting as an extention of one's soul. Of how it demands your attention and plays with your emotions.
The themes that I use in my work are everyday scenes of people doing everyday things but I enhance it with bright colours and rough brush strokes. I believe people enjoy my work because of it's honesty and the emotions my figures envoke.
