Will Alves is a Contemporary Pop Artist and graphic designer at SUNSET BEACH STUDIO, Gordon's Bay, Cape Town.
His large scale work is funky and upbeat, and inspired by love, romance, kitsch, horror movies, the 60's Pop art revolution, and advertising, and artists like Pierre et Gilles and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Biographies about creative people get my juices flowing.I have been making art professionally for over 25 years, it has been an amazing, exciting journey, I wouldn't want to trade my life with anything different. My studio Table Mountain, Cape Town, False bay and the Helderberg Mountains. I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to be in such an inspiring place and I have so many wonderful rich memories and new ideas which still have to be woven and thrown onto canvas.
There is a thread that runs through my work, however to an outsider it may seem to un-cohesive, each work vastly different from the next. I seek to entertain the eye, because I love so many different things and believe that the role of the artist is to decorate the planet with aesthetic beauty. Creativity comes from a dark place, as an artist I am always seeking re-arrange ugly or sad realities into positive, empowering and dynamic stories.
