About "Esther"

I met this lady in the grounds of the Castle of the Cape of Good Hope. She was part of a Venda choir group visiting Cape Town. I loved the colours of her outfit and the pride and dignity she exuded. She gave her permission for me to paint her. For me she represents all the Black women of South Africa, who raise their children, their neighbours children, other peoples children, their grandchildren, but they do so lovingly and without complaint. She has such dignity. I thank her and women like her who have been and still are the backbone of our nation.

About Trish

Trish Haye

Born in East London and raised on a farm outside Nelspruit. Trish (nee Barras-Baker) moved to Cape Town as a teenager and enrolled to study Graphic Design at Cape Technikon in 1980. After her studies were cut short she pursued a career in the Hotel Industry. She went back to college in 1989 and received a diploma in Graphic Design from Inscape Study Centre. She worked as in-house Artist for Holiday Holdings Group of Travel companies designing their brochures.

Trish discovered oils in 2006 and had studio space with Good Hope Art Studios based at the Castle of The Cape of Good Hope. She spent three happy years there along with many fellow Artists from as far afield as the DRC and Zimbabwe. She has had a solo exhibition at Truworths Head Office in Cape Town and participated in a group exhibition at the Artscape Theatre.

After seeing her painting "Parks Mayeza", Trish was selected by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, to submit a work for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. She completed "Crystal Ball: Soccer is my World, My World is Soccer" which reflects the hope and dreams of Township youth, that sport can take them to hitherto undreamed of possibilities. The painting perfectly described the Department's theme : "Western Cape - Talking to the World" and the painting was purchased for it's permanent and travelling exhbition.

Now that her daughters are at university she is devoting as much time as possible to her Art, but also revels in showing people her beautiful city.

Trish's paintings are crisp, clear and colourful. She has a realistic style and enjoys portraits. She has some amusing surrealistic works and has developed a unique pen & ink technique.

She is happy to undertake commissions.
