I am at my most comfortable with myself and life when I paint, especially still lives. A still life offers a freedom of choice in the sense that the choice and placement of subjects can be whatever I want. The subjects are immobile thus allowing me to paint without haste that which I have placed before me and in so doing creating a non-deceptive artwork. A still life creates a moment of rest in this ever-changing world in the midst of the demands made by deadlines.
