About Jacob

Jacob Brynard grew-up in and around Johannesburg in the Republic of South Africa.
After his high school career he studied architecture and the history and appreciation
of art at the Witwatersrand University. Due to personal and financial reasons he
decided to pursue a career in the natural sciences and started working full-time
in a laboratory. Through part-time study he obtained the National Diploma in
Analytical Chemistry and then prepared himself for a managerial position by part-time
study for the B. Comm. Degree at the Rand Afrikaans University with majors Economics, Business Economics and Industrial Psychology and then the B. Comm Honours degree at the University of South Africa.

Apart from art, he has a passion for traveling and nature. He traveled to all corners of the Southern African sub-continent: South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Namibia and also further north to Ghana He also visited just about every country in Europe by train, plane and bus and with his family they spent many holidays in nature camping or hiking or game watching in game reserves. He is also a life member of the South African Botanical Society.

During his working years work pressure, family and social responsibilities left very little time to practice his passion for painting. At the age of sixty seven he retired as Quality Control Manager at the brewery and was able to spend more time on his hobbies like gardening, hiking and painting and equipped himself for the latter by undergoing more
formal art training at Jancke Combrink's art studio.

Although he does portrait and still life painting, he prefers landscapes, particularly of those places he visited during his travels especially scenes in Namibia.
