I was struck by the purity and clarity of the narcissus blooming in my garden in spring. I particularly enjoyed the contrast of the zinging orange centre against the waxy sculpted quality of the petals. Even though they are so tiny, each flower is a giant in its own universe.
Elaine Hurford moved from Cape Town to Prince Albert in April 1994. Her love of the beautiful Karoo light, simple architecture and big landscapes have found an outlet in photography and art. She is also a travel writer and has produced five hard-cover South African travel books for Struik . Elaine is a self-taught artist who started painting five years ago, and particularly enjoys doing portraits of dogs. She also does fruit and flower studies in oils and acrylics, and small watercolours of Karoo houses and landscapes. She is married with a daughter and two very special grandchildren, Gabriel, six, and Rose, three.
Participated in group exhibitions at the Karoo Gallery in Prince Albert
