About "Radio Kootwijk | Gebouw A at Sunset | Fine Art G"
Radio Kootwijk Gebouw A at Sunset captures the monumental transmitting station at Radio Kootwijk as the last light settles across the surrounding Veluwe landscape in the Netherlands.
The cool blue architecture rises against a sky of muted rose, violet and gold. Small illuminated windows punctuate the building while narrow passages of evening light stretch across the distant horizon, bringing architecture, landscape and atmosphere together.
The original painting was created in 2006 in oil on canvas using a palette knife. The physical application of paint gives the building an almost sculptural presence, while softer passages of colour capture the changing light of sunset.
I have long been fascinated by the relationship between Gebouw A and the landscape surrounding it. Its monumental geometry is unmistakably man-made, yet its isolation within the open Veluwe gives the building an extraordinary stillness.
For me, the work is ultimately about the meeting of architecture, landscape and light.

About Leone
Leone Tonkinson is a South African-born fine artist based in the Netherlands and founder of Solar Realism, a painting approach centred on the presence and character of natural light.
Working primarily in oils, she combines traditional layered painting techniques with close observation, creating still lifes, wildlife and botanical works marked by luminosity, quiet presence and finely observed detail.
Her South African roots and her life within the Dutch landscape both inform her work, bringing together warmth, nature and a strong sense of place. Rather than simply depicting a subject, Tonkinson seeks the moment when light, atmosphere and presence give it emotional resonance.
Her work is held in private collections and exhibited in the Netherlands and internationally.
