About Natasja
In 1992 Natasja completed a diploma in Ceramic Design. Natasja did not immediately enter into a design career but chose instead to experience other facets and career options. With the encouragement of family and friends Natasja followed her true passion and resumed painting on a full time basis. In 2004 Natasja was accepted as a member of The Drawing Room. With the nurturing and mentorship of members of the Group Natasja was able to grow to a level where she was confident enough to exhibit her work. Natasja has exhibited at numerous Exhibitions including Daskari Art Gallery, Sparks Gallery and at the Industrial Development Corporation.
For Natasja, an artwork begins with the making of the paper. For her, experimenting with the tactile sensation of fibres and added organic materials is extremely satisfying. Once the compositional design has been established, the oil paint is laid on the canvas in a rainbow palette. By examining the fall of the light the paint is loosely, yet deliberately, placed. Nude figures provide the ideal subject matter with the lush quality created by the paper naturally suiting the female form. Often Natasja crops her Compositions to create interest. Natasja believes that by combining subject matter, the quality of colour and form together with texture enables her to create something with more depth and interest than purely a photographic image of the subject.
Natasja considers her greatest influences to be the work of the Impressionists and the accomplishments of the artists at The Drawing Room. She loves the pleasure of self expression and is given tremendous joy when presenting her work to new owners. Natasja is given great satisfaction in being able to create artwork for people to treasure. It is with anticipation that she moves forward with her style and technique and looks forward to the journey of experimenting and external influences that will impact upon her work. It is Natasja[0x1]s intention to make a unique contribution to The Drawing Room and to offer fellow members some of the inspiration that she has received!
