About David

Artist died 21 June 2024

In September 2007, after a lifetime in the corporate world, nothing was further from his mind than a career in painting.

The following month everything changed. In a business meeting he was told by a complete stranger that he should paint. His initial response was to reject the suggestion with contempt, but over the next while he began wondering whether he had received a "message".

He reluctantly decided to dabble.
It was the start of a magical journey.
3 years later he decided to leave the corporate world to paint full-time.
He opted not to have art lessons but rather to teach himself. he also determined not to copy anything or anyone but rather to draw his inspiration from his vivid imagination. Not having a fear of making mistakes has allowed him to expand his horizons.

Each painting seems to take on a mind of its own by "going with the flow". The end result is often a pleasant surprise.

His first solo exhibition took place at the prestigious Gallery 88 in Paarl. It took place almost 4 years after the day he met stranger.
