About Tonski
SNAPSHOT OF THE ARTIST Born in the Eastern Cape, Toni enjoyed an idealistic childhood being raised on a farm where making their own cheese, butter and tea were just daily routines. A rural setting where giant mountain tortoise and baboons were the closest neighbors. Here she was given her nick name Tonski which later became her painting name. As a young girl she was drawn to city life when the family relocated. She married and raised three children. Self supporting she taught herself the art of cosmetic chemistry, establishing over many years a successful manufacturing company now in the hands of her son. Passionate about the French impressionists she dedicated all her efforts to painting in a variety of mediums. After many years her preference is for oil and pastel. Now located on the art route in Noordhoek much of her work is sold through home exhibition. Despite her many talents she remains a humble soul, even though her grandson insists she is a finer painter than her favorite artist Picasso. Her style reflects a love for purity and simplicity - finding the true essence of the moment. Her interpretation of impasto creates unique interesting pieces. She courts controversy with an out of the box perspective on art: She believes that a painting that requires in depth discussion as to its meaning has failed to connect with the viewer and pursues rather an instant connection that is open and honest in the message that it reflects.
