Ruan Olivier

Ruan is an Artist with SouthAfricanArtists.com based in South Africa.

Growing up I did not have much exposure to the arts, but felt a yearning throughout my youth to express myself artistically. One day a paintbrush was put in my hand, and I was amazed as the result appeared on the canvas. It felt as if I was being drawn into the world on the canvas, filling in the empty spaces as I visualise my surroundings.

Through my work I wish to convey the beauty and diversity of the world that surrounds us, those special places where we all long to be. As such I prefer portraying landscapes and scenes from the natural world.

My preferred medium is oil paint, because I believe it lends a sense of authenticity and longevity to my work. I enjoy the characteristics of oil paint, such as its mouldability and texture. Most of my work is done impasto, providing dimension and texture to the product.
